Indiana Volleyball 2026: Season Outlook & Program Overview

Original analysis of the Indiana Hoosiers program, coaching staff, and 2026 outlook.

    2026 Season Outlook

Indiana is not sneaking up on anyone this year. The Hoosiers won 25 matches in 2025, the most in program history, finished fifth in the Big Ten for their best conference showing since 1999, reached the NCAA regional semifinals for the first time in fifteen years and closed the season ranked 13th nationally. The Big Ten's preseason poll placed them sixth. Steve Aird, now in his ninth year in Bloomington and under contract through 2031, called the 2026 slate one of the most demanding non-conference schedules the program has ever assembled: nine opponents finished last season ranked, including five of the top nine, and seven of the sixteen teams that reached regionals a year ago are on it. Indiana opens on the road at Louisville before playing a single match that counts. Sophomores Teodora Krickovic and Jaidyn Jager were both named preseason All-Big Ten, a striking amount of returning production for a team that graduated Candela Alonso-Corcelles and Avry Tatum. Replacing roughly 1,700 kills is the season's central question. A realistic ceiling is a top-five Big Ten finish and a second-weekend NCAA run; a realistic floor is a bubble team that needs the conference tournament to feel safe.

    Program History & Tradition

Indiana has reached six NCAA Tournaments - in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2010 and 2025. The most recent was the most significant: the 2025 Hoosiers won a program-record 25 matches, went 14-6 in the Big Ten to finish fifth, the program's best conference result since 1999, and advanced to the regional semifinals for the first time in fifteen years before closing the year 13th in the AVCA poll. Home matches are played at Wilkinson Hall, dedicated in January 2019 and shared with Indiana wrestling, which replaced University Gymnasium and brought volleyball back onto the athletics campus.

    Head Coach Spotlight

Steve Aird is in his ninth season at Indiana and signed a contract extension through 2031 in January 2026. He inherited a program that had not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2010 and delivered its best season on record in 2025: 25 wins, fifth place in the Big Ten, a regional semifinal and a No. 13 final ranking. His 2026 recruiting and portal work brought in Isabel Clark from San Diego, a two-time First Team All-West Coast Conference selection, Keondreya Granberry from Tennessee, and top-110 recruit Sara Snowbarger.

    What to Watch in 2026

The Big Ten added a conference tournament for 2026 and, to make room, cut the regular season to a single round robin - Indiana plays all seventeen league opponents exactly once, with no rematches and no home-and-home cushion. The Hoosiers drew nine league matches at Wilkinson Hall and eight on the road. October decides the season: seven of ten matches are away, including a Pacific Northwest swing at Oregon and Washington, and the hardest stretch on the calendar runs from October 23 at Ohio State to Penn State at home on the 25th and straight into back-to-back nights at Michigan State and Michigan. Nebraska visits Bloomington on October 8 and USC three days later. November is a designed runway with only one road match, closing on the Monon Spike Match against Purdue on November 17. The Big Ten Tournament follows November 20 to 25 in Fishers, Indiana, where fifteen of eighteen teams qualify and the bottom three miss out entirely.

    Indiana Volleyball 2026 Schedule Overview

    Last updated: August 24, 2026

The 2026 Indiana volleyball schedule runs 26 regular-season matches - 11 at Wilkinson Hall, 11 true road matches and 4 at neutral sites - with 17 of the 26 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers open on the road at Louisville on August 28 before playing a match at home. Steve Aird called it one of the most demanding non-conference slates the program has ever assembled: nine opponents finished last season ranked, including five of the top nine, and seven of the sixteen teams that reached regionals a year ago appear on it. Big Ten-SEC Challenge Week sends Indiana up the road to West Lafayette for Georgia on September 1 and Texas A&M on September 2 - both neutral-site matches despite the short drive. The Broadway Block Party in Nashville against Tennessee follows on September 6, then Southern Indiana in Evansville. The Indiana Invitational on September 10 and 11 is the home opener, against Cal Poly and Eastern Illinois. Because the Big Ten added a conference tournament for 2026, the regular season moved to a single round robin: Indiana plays all seventeen league opponents exactly once, with nine of those at Wilkinson Hall. The regular season closes with the Monon Spike Match against Purdue on November 17, and the inaugural Big Ten Tournament runs November 20 to 25 in Fishers, Indiana. Full dates, venues and confirmed broadcast information are below.

Indiana opens August 28 at Louisville. The August 14 Notre Dame exhibition and August 21 Cream and Crimson Scrimmage do not count toward the record.

    TV & Streaming Information

Big Ten matches are carried across BTN, B1G+ and FS1 - which one depends on the match, and assignments are usually confirmed a week or two out. B1G+ is the Big Ten's subscription service and picks up everything not selected for linear television, which is the majority of the conference slate. BTN is available on most cable packages plus Fubo, YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream and Sling Blue. Non-conference road matches generally stream on the host school's platform - ACC Network Extra for Louisville and NC State, SEC Network+ for Georgia, Texas A&M and Tennessee - so check the opponent's site for those. Student tickets are free with a valid IU ID and general admission is sold through iuhoosiers.com.

    Top Games to Watch

    • Nebraska at Indiana

      Thursday, October 8

The defending Big Ten champion visits Bloomington for the second consecutive year, and under the new single round robin this is the only meeting.

    • Penn State at Indiana

      Sunday, October 25

The marquee date of the season at Wilkinson Hall, and the middle of the hardest nine-day stretch on the calendar.

    • Purdue at Indiana - Monon Spike Match

      Tuesday, November 17

The rivalry closes the regular season for the second straight year, this time in Bloomington. Purdue was picked fourth in the preseason poll, two spots above Indiana, so expect it to matter for seeding.

    • Indiana at Louisville

      Friday, August 28

The season opener, on the road against a team that finished 2025 ninth in the AVCA poll. Indiana schedules up deliberately, and this is the clearest example.

    • Indiana at Ohio State, then Michigan State and Michigan

      October 23 - October 31

Four matches in nine days, three of them away, all against tournament-caliber opposition, with Penn State at home wedged in between.

    Key Players to Know

    Teodora Krickovic

    Setter

Sophomore from Novi Sad, Serbia. First Team All-Big Ten and AVCA Honorable Mention All-American as a freshman - the first Hoosier freshman to earn both - with 1,212 assists in 2025. Named preseason All-Big Ten.

    Jaidyn Jager

    Outside Hitter

Sophomore team captain from Carlsbad, California. Recorded 383 kills and a team-high 249 digs as a freshman, the only freshman in the country with 380-plus kills, 200-plus digs, 50-plus blocks and 30-plus aces. Second Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Freshman, and a preseason All-Big Ten pick.

    Isabel Clark

    Outside Hitter

Junior transfer from San Diego and a two-time First Team All-West Coast Conference selection, with 311 and 397 kills in her two seasons there. Part of the answer to replacing roughly 1,700 graduated kills.

    Victoria Gray

    Middle Blocker

Returning starter named by Indiana as a 2026 leader, anchoring a middle rotation deepened by Tennessee transfer Keondreya Granberry.

    Venue Information

Wilkinson Hall, dedicated in January 2019 and shared with Indiana wrestling, seats 3,000 and sits at the corner of East 17th Street and North Fee Lane, just north of Cook Hall on the athletics campus. It replaced University Gymnasium, which had housed IU volleyball across the bypass, and moving competition back onto the athletics campus is a large part of why crowds have grown. Indiana hosts 11 matches here in 2026. Doors typically open an hour before first serve. Student tickets are free with a valid IU ID; general admission is sold through iuhoosiers.com.

    Season Expectations

The Big Ten's preseason poll put Indiana sixth, behind Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue and Minnesota. Krickovic and Jager were both named preseason All-Big Ten as sophomores, a striking amount of returning production for a team that graduated Candela Alonso-Corcelles and Avry Tatum, two of the best attackers in program history. Replacing roughly 1,700 kills is the season's central question. A realistic ceiling is a top-five Big Ten finish, a seeded NCAA berth and a second-weekend run; a realistic floor is a bubble team that needs the conference tournament to feel safe. Indiana is also trying to reach back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time this century.
