Texas A&M Volleyball 2026: Season Outlook & Program Overview
Original analysis of the Texas A&M Aggies program, coaching staff, and 2026 outlook.
2026 Season Outlook
Texas A&M plays the 2026 season with a target on its back. The Aggies won the program's first NCAA championship last December in Kansas City — a 3-0 sweep of Kentucky in the final, capping a 29-4 run that included knocking off previously undefeated Nebraska in Lincoln — and they open this year ranked No. 8 in the AVCA preseason poll. That ranking says less about doubt in Jamie Morrison's program than about how much turned over: eight players from the title roster are back, and eight are new. Sorting out who does what, and how quickly, is the story of the fall. The Aggies dropped the opener to No. 7 Louisville 3-1 in Milwaukee after 2025 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Kyndal Stowers went down with an apparent back injury in pregame warmups, forcing a rebuilt rotation twenty minutes before first serve. Marquette transfer Natalie Ring had 11 kills in her debut, Taryn Morris set a career high with 10, Eliza Sharp hit .333 with 10 kills and six blocks, and freshman libero Gabi Rodriguez dug 18 balls.
Program History & Tradition
Texas A&M won the 2025 NCAA Division I women's volleyball championship, the first national title in program history. The Aggies went 29-4, became the first team to beat Nebraska in Lincoln since 2022 in the regional final, then swept Pitt in the national semifinal and Kentucky in the final on December 21 in Kansas City. Kyndal Stowers took Most Outstanding Player honors. It was Jamie Morrison's third season in College Station.
Head Coach Spotlight
Jamie Morrison was hired on December 16, 2022 as the seventh head coach in program history and is 66-25 in three seasons — one of only three coaches to win a national championship within his first three years leading a program. His résumé before College Station is unusual for a college head coach: three Olympic medal-winning staffs (gold with the U.S. men in 2008, silver with the U.S. women in 2012, bronze in 2016) and a run as head coach of the Dutch national team. That international background shows up in how A&M plays — serve pressure, in-system passing as a non-negotiable, and a heavy analytics and video operation behind the scenes. In March 2026 the university signed him to a new five-year contract through the 2031 season. Associate head coach Lindsey Walton joined in January 2023 after five seasons as head coach at Oklahoma.
What to Watch in 2026
How fast the new group gels: eight new players and a new setter mean the connections that win five-setters in November do not exist yet in August, and the non-conference slate is built to force them into existence early. Middle-blocker production is the second question — A&M graduated real numbers there, and Sharp's six-block, .333-hitting opener suggests the transfers were the right call. Health is the third: Stowers' availability is the single biggest variable on this page, and pin depth is the difference between a team that survives an injury and one that doesn't. No program has repeated since Texas in 2022-23, and A&M's path would run through the Alamodome in San Antonio in December — a three-hour drive from campus.
