Kentucky Volleyball 2026: Season Outlook & Program Overview
Original analysis of the Kentucky Wildcats program, coaching staff, and 2026 outlook.
2026 Season Outlook
Kentucky enters 2026 as the SEC's preseason favorite and the No. 3 team in the country, and for once the expectation is not merely a deep run — it is finishing the job. The Wildcats reached the 2025 national championship match before falling to Texas A&M in Kansas City, and Craig Skinner brought nearly the entire core back: Brooklyn DeLeye on the left, Kassie O'Brien running the offense after a National Freshman of the Year season, Molly Tuozzo anchoring the back row, and Lizzie Carr at 6-foot-6 in the middle. The addition of Notre Dame transfer Morgan Gaerte, a First Team All-ACC opposite who averaged 4.64 kills per set, converts a very good front row into arguably the most balanced attack in the country. Four Wildcats sit on the AVCA National Player of the Year watch list, more than any other program. The schedule matches the ambition — Wisconsin and Pittsburgh in the opening weekend, Penn State at Wrigley Field, UCLA and North Carolina at home, then a 15-match SEC gauntlet.
Program History & Tradition
Kentucky's 2020-21 NCAA championship, won over Texas in Omaha, was the first national volleyball title in SEC history and remains the defining moment of the program. It was not an outlier: the Wildcats have won nine consecutive SEC regular-season championships, appeared in every NCAA Tournament of the last decade, and turned Historic Memorial Coliseum into one of the best-attended and loudest venues in the sport. The 2025 runner-up finish at the Final Four confirmed Kentucky as a permanent fixture at the top of the national conversation rather than a program defined by a single title season.
Head Coach Spotlight
Craig Skinner has led Kentucky since 2005 and built it from an SEC also-ran into a national champion and perennial title contender. He is one of the winningest active coaches in Division I, with a 2020 national championship, a 2025 national runner-up finish and a run of consecutive SEC regular-season crowns. His teams are known for disciplined serve-receive, high-tempo offense out of the middle, and an unusually strong record of developing setters and liberos. Skinner has also become one of the sport's most effective portal recruiters without sacrificing the culture that keeps multi-year starters in Lexington.
What to Watch in 2026
Texas at Memorial Coliseum on September 27 is the heavyweight match of the SEC regular season and a plausible December seeding tiebreaker. Penn State at Wrigley Field on September 6 is the spectacle of the year, in front of what should be one of the largest crowds college volleyball has ever drawn. The October 2-4 road swing through Auburn and Florida is the schedule's cruelest weekend, and the trip to Tennessee on October 21 is the toughest building Kentucky visits in conference play. Watch how quickly Gaerte and DeLeye settle into a two-terminator rotation — if that pairing clicks by late September, Kentucky has the pieces for a home regional and a return to the Final Four.
Kentucky Volleyball 2026 Schedule Overview
Last updated: August 21, 2026
The complete 2026 Kentucky volleyball schedule is below: all 27 scheduled matches plus the SEC Tournament bracket, with first-serve times in Eastern, venues, and broadcast information added as networks confirm them. This is the season Big Blue Nation has been waiting for. Kentucky reached the 2025 national championship match before falling to Texas A&M in Kansas City, and Craig Skinner returned nearly the entire core — then added First Team All-ACC opposite Morgan Gaerte from Notre Dame through the portal. The Wildcats enter 2026 ranked No. 3 nationally, were picked by SEC coaches to win the league, and are chasing a 10th straight SEC regular-season championship. The schedule is built to earn a top-four NCAA seed. Kentucky opens against No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 4 Pittsburgh at the AVCA First Serve inside Fiserv Forum, plays Penn State at Wrigley Field, hosts UCLA and North Carolina in the Big Ten and ACC Challenges, and travels to the Bahamas for the Paradise Invitational — all before SEC play begins on September 23. Conference play opens at Vanderbilt on September 23 and continues with Texas at Memorial Coliseum on September 27, the heavyweight match of the SEC regular season. Senior Day is November 8 against Mississippi State, the regular season ends at Georgia on November 15, and the SEC Tournament runs November 20-24 at Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia.
Kentucky opens the 2026 season tonight against No. 6 Wisconsin at the AVCA First Serve in Milwaukee, 9:00 pm ET on ESPN.

TV & Streaming Information
SEC Network and SEC Network+ carry the large majority of Kentucky's conference matches. Selected marquee matches move to ESPN or ESPN2 — the season opener against Wisconsin and the SEC/ACC Challenge against North Carolina are both scheduled for ESPN platforms. SEC Network is available on cable and on YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV Stream and Fubo. SEC Network+ carries overflow SEC matches and home non-conference matches: it is not a channel and not a subscription, it streams inside the ESPN app and only requires a TV provider login that includes SEC Network — the single most common source of confusion for new volleyball viewers. ESPN and ESPN2 carry the marquee events and need cable or ESPN Unlimited; a handful of events sit on ESPN+ as a standalone subscription. The UK Sports Network radio call is on local affiliates and the UK Athletics app. Networks are typically finalized 7-14 days before first serve. UK Athletics posts confirmed broadcast assignments at ukathletics.com, and this page is updated as each is announced.
Top Games to Watch
Kentucky vs. Texas
Sun, Sept 27, 1:00 pm ET — Memorial Coliseum
The heavyweight fight of the SEC regular season, and it lands on opening weekend of conference play. Texas is the only program in the league with the pin-hitting depth to match Kentucky's, and this one is a plausible top-four-seed tiebreaker in December.
Kentucky at Penn State
Sun, Sept 6, 7:00 pm ET — Wrigley Field, Chicago
Volleyball at Wrigley. The Big Ten/SEC Challenge puts Kentucky in a ballpark in front of what is expected to be one of the largest crowds in the sport's history. Even if the sightlines are strange, the occasion is the story.
Kentucky vs. Wisconsin
Fri, Aug 21, 9:00 pm ET — Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee
No. 3 vs. No. 6 in the first match of the season, on ESPN, in an NBA arena. Kentucky's new-look front row gets tested against one of college volleyball's best blocking teams before it has played a competitive point together.
Kentucky at Florida
Sun, Oct 4, 8:30 pm ET — Gainesville
The oldest and loudest rivalry in SEC volleyball. It closes a brutal weekend that starts at Auburn two days earlier, and the O'Connell Center is the toughest building Kentucky visits before Knoxville.
Kentucky vs. Louisville
Sun, Sept 20, 3:00 pm ET — Memorial Coliseum
The Governor's Cup on a volleyball court. Two of the best programs in the country separated by 75 miles of I-64, and the only non-conference home match all year that sells out on rivalry alone.
Key Players to Know
Brooklyn DeLeye
Outside Hitter · Senior
The 2024 SEC Player of the Year and a 2025 First Team All-American. A six-rotation outside with elite serve-receive numbers and Kentucky's go-to attacker in tight sets.
Morgan Gaerte
Opposite · Junior
Notre Dame transfer and 2025 First Team All-ACC, where she averaged 4.64 kills per set. She gives Kentucky a genuine right-side terminator and is on the AVCA National Player of the Year watch list.
Kassie O'Brien
Setter · Sophomore
The 2025 AVCA National Freshman of the Year and a Second Team All-American as a true freshman, running one of the deepest offenses in the country.
Molly Tuozzo
Libero · Senior
2025 SEC Tournament MVP and AVCA Third Team All-America, one of only two liberos nationally on the 2026 AVCA National Player of the Year watch list.
Lizzie Carr
Middle Blocker · Redshirt Junior
At 6-foot-6 she is the block's anchor and a high-efficiency first-tempo option, and one of Kentucky's five Preseason All-SEC selections.
Venue Information
Historic Memorial Coliseum, 401 Avenue of Champions, Lexington, KY 40506, opened in 1950 and has been home to Kentucky volleyball for the life of the program. It seats roughly 8,500, has hosted multiple sellout NCAA Tournament matches, and the raised student section directly behind the service line makes it one of the toughest road environments in the SEC. Parking is free on home match nights in the Kroger Field structure, a short walk away. Doors typically open one hour before first serve; confirm gate times on the UK Athletics event page for high-demand SEC matches.
Season Expectations
Realistic ceiling: a 10th straight SEC regular-season title, a top-four national seed, a home regional in Lexington and a return trip to the Final Four after the 2025 runner-up finish. The floor is a top-three SEC finish and a top-16 national seed. Anything short of a regional final would register as a disappointment inside the program.

Is SEC Network+ free?
SEC Network+ is included at no extra cost if your TV provider carries SEC Network — you sign in through the ESPN app with those credentials. It is not sold separately and is not the same as an ESPN+ subscription.
How can I watch Kentucky volleyball without cable?
YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV Stream and Fubo all carry SEC Network, and each includes the login needed to stream SEC Network+ inside the ESPN app. Select events also appear on ESPN+ as a standalone subscription.

Who is Kentucky's volleyball head coach?

Did Kentucky win the national championship in 2025?
No. Kentucky reached the national championship match at the Final Four in Kansas City and finished as national runner-up, losing the title match to Texas A&M. The Wildcats return most of that roster in 2026.
Has Kentucky ever won a volleyball national championship?
Yes — Kentucky won the NCAA Division I national championship in the 2020-21 season, defeating Texas in the final in Omaha. It remains the program's only national title and the first NCAA volleyball championship won by an SEC school.
Who are Kentucky's best players in 2026?
Senior outside hitter Brooklyn DeLeye, junior opposite Morgan Gaerte, sophomore setter Kassie O'Brien, senior libero Molly Tuozzo and redshirt junior middle blocker Lizzie Carr were all named Preseason All-SEC. Where is Kentucky ranked heading into 2026?
Kentucky enters the season ranked No. 3 nationally and was picked by SEC coaches to win the conference. The Wildcats open against No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 4 Pittsburgh, making it one of the toughest opening weekends any team in the country faces.

Kentucky competes in the Southeastern Conference. The SEC plays a 15-match single round-robin conference schedule, followed by the SEC Tournament, whose champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
When and where is the 2026 SEC Volleyball Tournament?
November 20-24 at Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia — the second consecutive year Savannah hosts. Opening-round matches begin Friday, November 20 and the championship match is Tuesday, November 24 at 7:00 pm ET.
Who is Kentucky's biggest volleyball rival?
Louisville is the in-state rivalry that fills Memorial Coliseum, Florida is the longest-running SEC rivalry, and Texas A&M has become the most consequential opponent after ending Kentucky's 2025 season in the national championship match. Kentucky hosts all three storylines in different forms this season.
